Supporting a Green Recovery

The COVID-19 crisis has caused significant and unprecedented disruption and harm to individuals, communities, and economies all around the world. However, the impacts of climate change continue to be felt around the world and, as we attempt to relaunch our economies in the wake of lock-down measures, we must seize the opportunity to rebuild our society in a manner that supports healthy communities, ecological biodiversity, and a stable climate. In fact, the International Energy Agency notes that the COVID-19 recovery is a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to transition to a clean economy.

As the legal profession will be at the heart of this recovery, we must be informed of the possibilities that this opportunity presents. Fortunately, there are many organizations are developing ideas for citizens and policymakers to implement in making sure that the COVID-19 recovery is just and sustainable.

The following is a list of resources published by Canadian organizations or relating specifically to Canada:

International Institute for Sustainable Development

Just Recovery For All

Corporate Knights

Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment
